Address Book Menu Plug-In: Show Next Birthday

A lot more work went into this menu plug-in than planned. Don't you just love train rides?

However, to continue on my other birthday scripts I wrote the one you've really been waiting for. Show Next Birthday will show the person's next birthday in iCal. And, as this date will probably not have an event it will create an event for this birthday. Furthermore, for the arithmetically challenged, it will also calculate the age of that person and add that to the event.

There is one step of customization you will have to do. In the first line there is a property called birthdayCalendarName. Replace the "Birthdays" afterwards with the name of the calendar in iCal wher you want the birthday events to appear. I'd rather code this into the script than being asked every time.

Note that the event will also lead back to the entry in the Address Book through the url field. Just select "Go to Location" from the action menu next to the illegible url and there you are. This thanks to a great Mac OS X Hint. It also makes me wonder: When do we get iCal Action Menu Plug-ins?
